You Won’t Make Loses If Fares Reduce To 5% Per Trip – Ride Hailing-Apps Services Told

Less than 1 minute Minutes

The Sekondi-Takoradi branch of the Ghana Online Drivers Association (GODA) is urging the Ride Hailing-Apps Services to reduce their commission charges per trip on online drivers.

According to them, Ride Hailing-Apps Services reducing their percentage fares won’t affect both of them as partners.

They said the Ride-Hailing Apps operators charge as high as 20% on commission from online drivers on each trip using their platform.

“You won’t make loses if fares reduce to 5% per trip”, they stated.

The Sekondi-Takoradi Online Drivers made this known to the media today when over 100 drivers of ride-hailing services in the Western Region today 21, March 2022, embarked on a sit-down strike to protest the unfair treatment being meted out to them by their partners.

The National Public Relations Officer for GODA who also doubles as a Member of the Finance Committee in the Western Region, Mr. Albert Bentum, said they are not looking for masses because the service that they offer is unique.

In an interview with Kantanka Western Regional Correspondent, Benjamin Bray, Mr. Bentum indicated that their demonstration in Sekondi-Takoradi was based on high commission, fares, and security among others.

He continued that, the online drivers including

Bolt, Uber, Black ride, and other ride-hailing services face many challenges as they buy their cars, fuel, data, spare parts, call credit, and maintenance on the car wherein in the end they don’t earn much.

He used the opportunity to urge other drivers who are not part of GODA to join as there is strength in numbers.

Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer for Online Drivers in the Western Region, Mr. Kojo Williams also in an interview with Kantanka correspondent indicated that the members were hoping to receive a positive outcome from the strike and hoping for negotiation between them and the ride-hailing companies.
