Former MP for the Kumbungu constituency, Ras Mubarak, has stated that men in Ghana need to respect the gift tax law in the country.
According to the former MP in an interview on Happy98.9 FM, men need to pay tax on the gifts they buy for their girlfriends, especially iPhones. He stated that there is a law in Ghana that required people to pay tax when they gift anything above GHc200,00 to other people. Therefore guys who are able to purchase expensive iPhones worth thousands of cedis for their girlfriends will have to pay taxes on the gift.
Although there is an actual law that demands that citizens pay a tax of 25% and foreigners pay 30% on gifts they give to other people, the Ghana Revenue Authority has not been enforcing the law, hence most people are not even aware of it.
