W/R: TEACHERS NOT TEACHING IN CLASS WHILES PRESENT AT SCHOOLS, A MAJOR CHALLENGE TO GES – EDUCATION DIRECTOR

According to the Western Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Felicia Agyeibea Okai, teachers presentism at the various schools whereas not availing themselves in class to teach the pupils has become a major challenge affecting the western regional Ghana Education Service.

Mrs. Okai emphasized that the feature of education in the Western Region is in the hands of teachers.

She further explained that education directors can not be doing the same thing continuously to get the same reward which Ghana Education Service does not like where if not then they have to change their methodology.

In her speech at the maiden regional annual educational retreat workshop, stated that Metropolitan Municipal and District Directors of Education at various schools in western region are to be transformational and not positional leaders.

Furthermore, directors are to work hard to promote and protect the wellbeing of students rather than boasting themselves with position.

Meanwhile, she was glad that from July 2021 to date, Kindergarten schools that she visited since her assumption into office can now sound with reading skills.

The female director of education for the western region therefore urged education directors and assistants to help in direction to be able to address issues so that instructional hours are not misused.

Moreover, the western regional director of education hoped that the outcome of the workshop would help them plan for educational activities for the 2022 to keep challenging themselves as they are not competing with any region.

The three days workshop was organized to outline the challenges and achievement of school heads in all 14 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies with the theme “imagining education, the western story”.

Mrs. Felicia made this known when she welcomed dignitaries and school heads to its maiden regional annual educational retreat workshop coupled with Carol service for 14 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies with the purpose of reviewing 2021 educational system in the region and also informing stakeholders, Ghana National Association of Teachers ‘GNAT’, National Graduate Association of Teachers ‘NAGRAT’, Coalition of Concerned Teachers ‘CCT’ and security agencies to abreast themselves on educational standards in region.
