Sekondi: Western Naval Command Get New Edifice To Accommodate Its Personnel

The Western Naval Command in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Wednesday 6, April, 2022, had a sigh of relief when the Chief of Naval Staff commissioned and handed new edifice to accommodate its personnels to improve their efficiency at work.

The 20-Unit accommodation block was put up to replace an old dilapidated Block D at Navy Barracks in Sekondi.

Meanwhile, the new edifice was aimed at providing decent and comfortable accommodation to personnel so as to improve their efficiency at work.

The new block has 20 units apartment including Bed, living, kitchen, and store rooms and was named after Naval Captain George Bedu-Addo

Commissioning the Bedu-Addo Block, the guest of Honour, Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, said accommodating personnel in the barracks fosters Esprit de corps in the service, promotes discipline among troops and improves on the ability of Command to mobilise personnel for various activities.

Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, addressing the dignitaries including the families of “Naval Captain George Bedu-Addo”, admonished the occupants of Bedu-Addo Block to be diligent to keep the building and its environment clean.

He added that preserving Bedu-Addo Block in its current condition for a long time would be the greatest show of appreciation to those responsible for making the project possible.

However, the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Commodore Samuel Walker indicated that there was a big relief when the then Chief of the Naval Staff and current Chief of the Defence Staff Vice Admiral Seth Amoama initiated the project when the old structure was declared beyond economic repairs

He emphasized that the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu on his assumption of office considered accommodation as just not a welfare issue bit a necessary requirement for personnel in order to improve efficiency.

 

“It was not surprising that he continued with the project despite other pressing issues”, he added.

 

The 2 Garrison Commander, Commodore Walker, stated that the project is been completed at a time when they require more junior rates to be accommodated at the barracks to facilitate in the training of newly recruited ratings and development of personnel at the oil field.

He appealed to the occupants that maintenance issues should be quickly brought o the notice of the command Technical staff so as to prolong the life of the building.

The Bedu-Addo Block was constructed by Messrs Supremo Limited and after its commissioning has so far been allocated to 20 ratings and their families.
