Methodist Church Members Fume After Church Hierarchy Donate GH¢100,000.00 To National Cathedral Fund

Some members of the Methodist Church Ghana are said to be disappointed on what they termed as populist presentation to National Cathedral Fund was executed by the hierarchy of the church.

The Methodist Church Ghana under the auspices of the Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo donated a check of GH¢100,000 towards the construction of the National Cathedral.

According to the church members, there are many nursery societies under the Methodist Church Ghana finds it difficult to get even a pavilion as a place of worship but the leadership of the church decided to take such steps.

They asked must the Methodist church Ghana be seen in everything, where their leadership act as if they live in a different country where they are not abreast with what Ghanaian political leaders do to country’s economy.

Some recalled that the Methodist Church Ghana was quick to make presentations to the COVID fund set up by government, where the government is unwilling to render accounts of the fund to the citizen due to how they misappropriated the fund.

“A fellow church member needs this money more than enough to put food on their table”, they added.

Meanwhile others emphasized that there are always programs on the church calendar to appeal for funds where societies without pavilions including others with good standings are being charged to send percentages to connexional only to be given out to government at this unnecessary time.

However, some church members raising concerns on what they termed as populist presentation by the hierarchy of the Methodist Church Ghana said, they don’t have much to give, but they will start to think twice before giving out the little they have to the church nowadays.

Furthermore, they indicated that it is about time leadership of the Methodist Church addresses pressing issues rather than the populist presentations.

Other church members in their opinion suggested that the Methodist Church Ghana should have invested the GH¢100,000.00 into Dambai church project.

Secondly, there’s lack of desks at the various Methodist Basic Schools in Ghana but the church leadership were unable provide desks to their members children attending Methodist schools in Ghana.

In responding to the GH¢100,000 by the Methodist Church, a Bishop (name withheld) said he thinks that the Methodist Church Ghana has not done enough and can do better.

The Bishop in response to views expressed by a church member highlighted on other donations towards the construction of the National Cathedral by other christian churches and the Muslim fraternity.

He emphasized that the Church of Pentecost donated Ghc1,000,000.00 whereas the national Chief Imam also donated Ghc100,000.00 towards the project.

“The Christian faith is other centeredness hence our social responsibilities. This is the meaning of Jesus’ statement ‘the poor shall always be with you’ is for us to reflect on, especially just after Easter”, he added.

His response was captured on one society platform where church members were expressing their views after the hierarchy of the Methodist Church Ghana donated towards the National Cathedral project initiated by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo

with purpose of gatherings by all church denominations to worship and celebrate in spiritual accord among other activities.
