CITAG Calls For Justice For Albert Donkor over his ‘suspicious’ demise

Less than 1 minute Minutes

A Human Rights Advocacy group calling itself Citizens For Truth And Accountability, Ghana (CITAG) is demanding justice and accountability from the Ghana Police Service for Albert Donkor who allegedly died in police custody.

The group has asked the IGP to investigate and carefully examine the murder of a 28-year-old in Nkoranza, Bono East Region.

The Ghana Police Service in their press statement claims that Albert Donkor was an armed robber who died in an exchange of gunfire during their anti-robbery intelligence operations.

However, the family has refuted the claims, saying he was picked up from home to police custody where he died.

But, reacting to the account by the police, the convener of the group, Mr. Clement Clinton Blay, the police gave a skeptical account and have called the bluff of the police, describing it as lies and purely fabricated release.

Without sounding prejudicial about the incident, the group believes the account as narrated by the mother of the deceased which claims that the Police arrested Albert on April 25, 2022, at 1:00 am from their residence at Kasadjan but later murdered him could be the facts surrounding the incident.

Citizens For Truth And Accountability, Ghana are seriously questioning the Police’s justification for arresting the deceased at his residence without adequate evidence and subjecting him to his early grave.

The group praised the Nkoranza youth for the unrest in desire for justice for their colleague, even though they condemn the attacks on the Police station but the group believes that their anger erupted from heightened frustration.

Mr. Clement Clinton Blay told the press on Saturday, 21, that the brutal act by the police is rife with injustice, the people of Nkoranza cannot stay aloof when innocent Albert Donkor has been targeted and murdered.

Mr. Blay said the most worrying trend is that, murder cases involving police officers indiscriminately shooting down civilians haphazardly are becoming part of their service.
