The murder of popular South African rapper, AKA, known in private life as Kieran Forbes, has shocked the entertainment circle around the world.
The rapper was shot in the head at close range as he greeted an old friend outside a restaurant in the city of Durban by an assailant who then took off across the street. It is not known whether the murder was a hit or due to some other reason. The friend AKA was greeting, later revealed to be his former manager Tebello Motsoane, was also killed in the shooting.

CCTV footage released by the restaurant where the rapper was killed shows the killer walking up to AKA and shooting him in the head when his back was turned. Looking at the footage, speculations are now rife that the killer may be a woman, judging from the clothing and mannerism.
Police in South Africa have opened investigations into the murder and have refused to jump to conclusions on the motive although a planned hit was not ruled out.
AKA is said to have been on his way to perform at a nightclub when he was shot. He had posted an update on his upcoming album a few hours before his murder. He left behind a daughter named Kairo. The rapper was just 35 years old.
