{Background Of Essikado-Ketan Constituency}

Essikado-Ketan Constituency is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana where the seat is located within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly “STMA” of the Western Region of Ghana.

It was formed before the 2004 December presidential and parliamentary elections by the division of the old Sekondi constituency into the new Essikado-Ketan and Sekondi constituencies.

The division from the old Sekondi Constituency paved way for the constituents to cast their vote for the first time in the 2004 December presidential and parliamentary elections where they elected Hon. Joe Ghartey was the first Member of Parliament for the Constituency.

Following both presidential and parliamentary elections from 2004 till date, it is noted that from 2004 December to 2016 December general elections (parliamentary) the Constituency was a stronghold for NPP. Meanwhile, the 2020 parliamentary elections were a different game together where NPP got tougher competition from the opposition NDC {represented by Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah} but the NPP candidate, Hon. Joe Ghartey managed to sail through the nail.

Hon. Joe Ghartey is the current Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan constituents.

However, Hon. Joe Ghartey left with two years to mark 20 years of service as Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan constituents seems to progress further in his Political career. He is loyal to the New Patriotic Party and has expressed interest to lead the New Patriotic Party as a Presidential candidate in the 2024 General elections.

For his commitment and enthusiasm, Hon. Charter who represented Essikado-Ketan constituents in the Republic Of Ghana’s Parliamentary Chamber for president John A. Kuffour and current president Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo was Deputy Attorney General And Minister Of Justice
{Government Of Ghana}, Attorney General And Minister Of Justice {Government Of Ghana},
2nd Deputy Speaker Of Parliament {Parliament Of Ghana} and Minister Of Railway Development {Government Of Ghana}.

Furthermore, the affable Essikado-Ketan MP also served on various committees
including, Subsidiary Legislation Committee as Ranking Member, Standing Orders Committee, and Privileges Committee.

His decision to join the NPP presidential race has opened an opportunity for the party’s members to be in a contest (primaries) to lead the party in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

These individuals including, Mr. Giovanni Osei Tutu Agyeman Mr. Charles Bissue, and Madam Anna Horma A. Miezah have declared their intention to succeed Hon. Joe Ghartey to help Essikado-Ketan New Patriotic Party to break the “8”.

Meanwhile, as of the time of filling this report, the aforementioned are yet to pick their nomination form when the National Executives of the New Patriotic Party open nominations.

The information available to us indicate that the nomination form for a parliamentary aspirant {primaries} is at a cost fee of GH¢5,000 whiles filling out the nomination cost GH¢40,000

Among, Mr. Giovanni Osei Tutu Agyeman, Mr. Charles Bissue, and Madam Anna Horma Akaisi Miezah, who can succeed Hon. Joe Ghartey to break the “8” in the 2024 general elections.
