AHANTA WEST:GREL Hands Over 2 Completed Ultra Modern Water Projects To Farming Communities

BACKGROUND

A great worry for the chiefs and residents of Ahanta Adjumako and Mpatase in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western region of Ghana has been the access to potable drinking water.

However, residents of the aforementioned two farming communities namely Ahanta Adjumako and Mpatase has great population of over five thousand inhabitants, but access to drinking water has been the major challenge for the communities over the past Five {5} years .

The residents of the two communities speaking to Kantanka TV Western Regional Correspondent Benjamin Bray indicated that they only depend on one borehole but due to the increase in their population, the current dead trapped borehole is unable to meet their water demand.

Chiefs Testing The Quality Of Water

Again a stream which also support them aside the bore-hole had been polluted by the activities of galamsey.

Others stated that they walk long distances to nearby communities before they can have access to water for daily activities.

Notwithstanding, they are therefore calling on the government and other organisations to help them get access to potable drinking water as they enter into the drought season.

GREL INTERVENTION

Meanwhile, as part of a measure to solve the water situation for the residents of Ahanta Adjumako and Mpatase about the situation, the Ghana Rubber Estate Limited on Friday 30th December 2022, handed over two separate
ultra modern water projects {bore-hole} to the people of Ahanta Adjumako and Mpatase for immediate use.

Handing over the ultra modern water project, the Cooperate Affairs Manager for Ghana Rubber Estate Limited Mr. Perry Acheampong on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr. Lionel Barre, said as part of their Social Intervention Projects, GREL has gained much renown in the over Ninety {90} operational area communities in Western, Central and Eastern regions of Ghana.

According to Mr. Perry Acheampong , there was an extensive stakeholder consultation and engagements among GREL, chiefs, residents of Ahanta Adjumako and Mpatase on the need for safe, hygienic, and quality access to drinking water for the two farming communities.

“we thank our stakeholders, ACLANGO, Nananom, Residents for the immense role played in the development of Ghana Rubber Estate Limited”, Mr. Perry added.

Addressing the Chiefs, residents and other dignitaries at the handing over ceremony, Mr. Perry Acheampong urged the two communities (AHANTA ADJUMAKO & MPATASE) to put in place effective mechanisms to ensure the water facility which costed {GH¢310,000} is well maintained to serve its purpose.

Furthermore, Kontuhene of Ahanta Adjumako, Nana Kofi Akesse, Chief of Mpatase and of the residents of both Ahanta Adjumako and Mpatase commended and expressed their gratitude to Ghana Rubber Estate Limited “GREL” for providing them with clean drinking water that could serve the two communities.

Moreover, the Ghana Rubber Estate Limited under the aegis of the Association of Chiefs on whose Lands GREL Operates (ACLANGO), GREL has constructed and donated Community water projects to ESSAMAN, ELOBANKATA, CHAVENA, GYABENKROM, OKURASE, ASIKASU (EASTERN REGION), SUBRI, AHANTA ADJUMAKO, MPATASE.

It is said GREL has invested over Four Million Euros in the last 10 years on Cooperate Social Responsibility projects in the areas of Health, Electricity, Water, Education, Sanitation among others, in its operational areas with the aim of improving the livelihood of communities.
