A Police Officer with the Western Regional Police Command known in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis as Makafui on 24 June 2022 at the Sekondi Magistrate Court B testified that the deceased Joseph Entsie (a taxi driver) knocked him down with his vehicle from behind at Effia-Nkwanta Nurses Quarters Junction (Police Snap Check Point) when he(Makafui) was performing his duties.
Given his account of what transpired in the death of Late Joseph Entsie, officer Makafui said he was checking vehicles from Sekondi heading towards Takoradi where he had completed checking a vehicle he stopped and after he alerted the driver to go and within 4 to 5 meters, late Joseph Entsie knocked him down.
“I fell unconscious after suspect knocked me down from behind with a vehicle, Officer MAKAFUI testified“.
Police Officer Makafui who mounted the witness box 1st at the Sekondi Magistrate Court B, continued that, a good Samaritan by named Mr. Amos who was in a queue among other vehicles took him to the Holy Child Hospital at Fijai junction as he felt unconscious after the alleged knocked down by late Joseph Entsie on 25, December 2021.
At the Holy Child Hospital, Officer Makafui indicated that the health professionals attended to him, and was discharged a few hours after he was rushed to the health facility by Mr. Amos on 25, December 2021.
In court, Officer Makafui who the deceased family allegedly pointed fingers at for causing huge damage to the family, added that after being discharged from Holy Child Hospital, he was issued two days off duty.
However, he emphasized that he was given a continuous 1week to visit the hospital for medical checkups.
The 2nd police officer Osei Yamoah and the 3rd police officer (name unknown) who mounted the witness box at Sekondi Magistrate Court B, told the court that, as on duty at Effia-Nkwanta Nurses Quarters Junction (Police Snap Check Point) they witnessed the incident where the late Taxi Driver knocked down their colleague Officer Makafui.
Both the 2nd and 3rd Police Officers emphasized that they arrested the suspect (now deceased) and put him in his own vehicle as the 2nd police officer Osei Yamoah drove the said taxi occupying the deceased and the 3rd police officer by himself to Sekondi MTTD Office.
The lead counsel for the deceased family (applicant) Lawyer Ebo Donkor interrogated 2nd and 3rd police officers in the witness box separately, they both gave different in terms of timing (clock).
The 2nd police officer Osei Yamoah said after handing over the then suspect (late Joseph Entsie) to the Sekondi Police Station Officers, he together with the 3rd police officer (name unknown) went back to Effia-Nkwanta Nurses Quarters Junction (Police Snap Check Point) to continue their duty from the hours of 9:00pm with end duty at 5:00am on 25, December 2021.
Meanwhile, the 3rd police officer (name unknown), during his interrogation in the witness box by Lawyer Ebo Donkor said, after he and the 2nd police officer Osei Yamoah handed over the then suspect (late Joseph Entsie) to Sekondi Police Station Officers, they continued their Snap Check Point duty at Effia-Nkwanta Nurses Quarters Junction from 7:00 pm and closed at 6:00 am on 25, December 2021.

Notwithstanding, Lawyer Ebo Donkor during his continued interrogation showed pictorial evidence on his mobile phone to the 4th police officer Sgt. Sylvester Walayon who on 25, December 2021 was the counter officer at Sekondi Police Station when the late Joseph Entsie was brought from Effia-Nkwanta Nurses Quarters Junction (Police Snap Check Point).
The National Commission Officer “NCO” (4th police officer)Sgt. Sylvester Walayon, who received and detained the suspect indicated that around 2:30 am on 25, December 2021, a cellmate called and informed him that, the suspect (late Joseph Entsie) had committed suicide.
Furthermore, he rushed to the cell and witnessed that the suspected committed suicide with his trouser where one side was tied around the neck and the other side tied to metal at a ventilated window in the Sekondi cells.

The Sekondi Police Station counter officer Sgt. Sylvester Walayon having 15 years in Ghana Police Service told the Sekondi Magistrate Court B that he can’t imagine the height of the Sekondi Police Station cells from the ceiling to the ground after Lawyer Ebo Donkor had posed a question to him.
In view of this, the Sekondi Magistrate Court B presided over by Her Worship Rosemary Hayford through the court registrar would be given a notice to an independent architect to be at the Sekondi Police Cells with 3 separate inmate rooms to take accurate measurements and then file its Report to the Court.
The court, therefore, ordered the Western Regional police command to produce other documents as the lead counsel for the applicants (deceased family) was also told to produce his pictorial evidence to the court.
Her Worship Rosemary Hayford, the presiding judge at the Sekondi Magistrate Court “B” adjourned proceedings to 27th June 2022 which is to be heard from 8 am – 9 am in the morning and afternoon from 2:00 pm.
