EKMA: Health Directorate Mount Strategies To Begin NID For Covid-19 Vaccination

The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Health Directorate in the Western Region has mount up strategies to begin the National Immunization Day (NID) for COVID-19 Vaccination campaign in the Municipality.

The strategies to be used in the Municipality include, vaccinating of eligible persons at their door steps, at work place, homes, religious gatherings, schools, market among others with vaccines.

The aim of the 5-day exercise is to serve at least 13% of the eligible population representing 18,735 people in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly with vaccines either first dose, second dose or booster.

In the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality, about 63,621 people representing 36.6% using the old population have been vaccinated.

Moreover, 36,497 representing 57.4% took the first dose whereas out of those who took the second dose, 1,471 took the booster also represents 4% of the fully vaccinated persons.

According to the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Health Director Mrs Joyce K. Bagina, they have administered about 101, 589 doses for the 1st, 2nd and booster of Covid-19 in the Municipality.

She said, children at the of15 years and above, all adults who are not fully vaccinated, individuals who took the 1st and 2nd doses among others are qualified to receive the Covid-19 booster vaccination.

Mrs. Bagina indicated that the nation has seen significant reduction in the number of cases in recent months as such the Covid-19 restrictions was eased by the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to enable Ghanaians to gradually return them to normal social atmosphere that existed before the Covid-19 times.

The health director added that, the easing of Covid-19 restrictions was a welcome news

to all Ghanaians but they can’t take things for granted nor assume that Covid-19 is no more in existence.

She emphasized that Covid-19 is real and still reeling among the Ghanaian populace as well as global and wrecking havoc to lives and livelihoods.

Mrs. Joyce K. Bagina therefore appealed to Ghanaian populace to adhere to the Vaccination schedules for Covid-19 to achieve and sustain the needed national protection against the virus and ward off any catastrophic effects of current and emerging variants of the virus.

Furthermore, she urged all eligible persons in the Western Region to get on board to get vaccinated and assured that every health facility in the Effia-Kwesimintsim is opened to receive any enquiries on the NID exercise and the Covid-19 vaccinations as a whole.
