Western Region GES Hosts 65th Independence Anniversary Inter-Regional Debate Competition

The Western Regional Ghana Education Service on yesterday 11, February, 2022, hosted the 65th Independence Anniversary Inter- Regional debate competition for the Southern zone at Ghana Secondary Technical School “G.S.T.S” in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

According to the Western Regional Director of Ghana Education Service, Mrs. Felicia Agyeibea Okai, independence anniversary debate competition is an annual activity aimed at fostering healthy competition among 2nd Cycle Schools to commemorate the independence of Ghana.

She added that the debate of this nature is valuable activity for students of all levels, where it teaches useful skills for other academic pursuit and life generally.

“debates build confidence speaking in public and expressing ideas eloquently”, she emphasized.

Moreover, it helps students structure their thoughts from the bits and pieces of information they gather it sharpens their critical thinking and research skills as well.

Mrs. Felicia Agyeibea Okai, encouraged the students to devote part of their time to reading and researching in order to become well informed debaters.

She therefore congratulated the contestants of all schools for making it to the stage of the Competition beating many other contenders in their various regions making them winners already but the ultimate winner would be chosen to represent the Southern zone at the National Competition to be held in the Central Region in March.

The competing schools from the 8 regions included Fiaseman SHS from Western Region, Sefwi Wiawso SHS-Western North, KNUST SHS, Ashanti, St. Roses Girls’ SHS-Eastern, Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS-Central, Chemu SHS-Greater Accra, kadjakrom SHTS-Oti, Peki SHTS-Volta.

 

The contestants representing the various schools at the 65th Independence Anniversary Inter- Regional debate competition explained the motion For and Against on the topic Success Is More Important Than Happiness

At the end of the contest Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School in the Central Region were emerged as Winners of the just ended 65th Independence Anniversary Inter-Regional Debate Competition held at Ghana Secondary Technical School “GSTS” in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the western region.

They are to represent the Southern Zone in the subsequent National Independence Anniversary Debate competition to be held on March, 2022 in the Central Region.
